Choir & Handbells
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in the Chancel choir and/or hand bell ministry. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of Murphysboro United Methodist Church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. The Chancel choir practices on Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. Carl Herzog, Director may be reached at (618) 201-1228.
The handbell choir practices at 9 a.m. on Saturdays. Beginning or experienced ringers are welcome. The ability to read music and commitment to rehearsal time is strongly suggested. The Hand Bell Choir plays several times during the year during services. Randy Auxier, Director can be reached at (618) 565-1238
Ushers and Greeters
The usher and greeter teams at Murphysboro United Methodist Church fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.
Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Murphysboro United Methodist Church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. All of our weekly sermons are uploaded to our website in audio formats. Our monthly newsletters are also uploaded to the site for reference. We maintain an active Facebook and for additional church communication.
Children’s Church
In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Murphysboro United Methodist Church holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons. Children are dismissed during the main service to attend Children’s Church.
